废钢打包机的基本要求：
（1）要有足够的挤压力。能使被处理的金属材料产生塑性变形束块，并使被束块达到一定要求的密度。
（2）要有一个能容纳金属物料、并能封锁起来承受挤压力的料箱。在知足这两项基本要求的条件下，又根据不同的应用要乞降不同的处理对象，就产生了很多不同类型的金属打包机。金属打包机的工作原理，就是在一个封锁的料箱内，使用工作力推动压头对金属物料进行挤压，使金属物料形成一定尺寸和密度的束块。
金属剪切机的基本原理就是利用金属材料在外力作用下，能产生塑性变形的性质，给金属材料以足够的( 打包机、能会萃并产生永久形变的外力，从而形成紧密的束块。所以不能产生塑性形变，或塑性变形很小的金属，不能直接进行打包处理。如高碳钢、工具钢、钢丝绳及铸铁等，就不能直接装机进行打包。
